Good Jobs Summit kicks off in Toronto on Friday

TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2014 /CNW/ - More than 1,000 students, workers, members of community organizations, government officials, business leaders, union representatives, researchers, policy makers and others will gather at the Good Jobs Summit. They will discuss how to create good jobs right across the country. The Summit takes place in downtown Toronto at Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens), from Friday evening until Sunday at noon.

Unifor reaches deal with Brinks

OTTAWA, Oct. 1, 2014 /CNW/ - Unifor has negotiated a tentative collective agreement with Brinks Canada in Ottawa, one day ahead of a legal strike date.

"This deal came after some long hours of talks with the company, but with the members' support for the bargaining team we were able to get a deal without a strike," said Andre Desjardins, president of Unifor Local 4266, which represents Brinks workers in Ottawa.

Unifor stands by bargaining association model

HALIFAX, Sept. 30, 2014 /CNW/ - Given recent public comments by Health Minister Leo Glavine, Unifor remains optimistic that the proposal for a bargaining association it developed with other health care unions in Nova Scotia will be established.

The four unions are now calling for an emergency meeting with the minister to clarify his comments about the bargaining association model and its status.
