Unifor wildfire relief donations top $220k

July 18, 2017

Toronto—Unifor’s regional councils have added another $120,000 to BC wildfire relief donations, bringing the union’s total Red Cross donation to over $220,000.

“I want to thank our regional bodies for stepping up to extend Unifor’s solidarity,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “Unifor members in every province are concerned about the welfare of families displaced during this crisis.”

Unifor has several hundred members spread out across the affected area, including 100 Mile House, 150 Mile House, Dog Creek, Lac La Hache, Quesnel, Soda Creek, Wildwood, and Williams Lake. Unifor’s national office made a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross on July 12. Unifor’s BC, Prairie, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic councils have together raised $120,000 and are encouraging local unions to make donations too.

“I want BC residents, Unifor members, and their communities to know that we want to do everything we can to support them during this traumatic time,” said Lana Payne, Unifor Atlantic Regional Director.
