SAINT JOHN, NB, Dec. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - Unifor will be participating in a rally on Friday, December 13, in support of workers at a Saint John, NB, radio station now facing their second Christmas on the picket line.

Seven workers at Maritime Broadcasting System's radio stations in Saint John went on strike in June 2012 as part of their effort to negotiate a first contract with the company.

"This is an incredibly long time for a first contract dispute to be going on," said Rino Ouellet, Unifor's area director for Atlantic Canada.

Unifor Atlantic Director Lana Payne said the strike shows the need for Unifor's Good Jobs Summit next October.

"No one should have to spend two Christmases on the picket line to get a little dignity at work," she said.

As a union representing other MBS workers across the Atlantic, Unifor stands in solidarity with the workers, members of the Canadian Media Guild, Payne said.

  • What: Rally in support of striking MBS workers
