MONTREAL, Aug. 20, 2015 /CNW/ - As part of Unifor's second Canadian Council, the 1,000 delegates from across the country will march through the city, starting at the Palais de Congres on St-Antoine in protest of the federal government's policies and mismanagement of the economy. The group will be departing from the St-Antoine entrance at 12:30 p.m.
"Prime Minister Stephen Harper has had the worst economic record of any government since WWII," said Unifor President Jerry Dias. "The Conservative government has let down Quebeckers and Canadians of every walk of life, with the exception of the ultra-rich. We need to elect a new government and chart a new direction."
The route will go along St-Antoine, turning south onto rue Saint-Pierre, turning west onto St-Jacques, turning south onto rue McGill, turning west onto rue William, north onto rue de la Montagne and then onto rue Barre where there will be a rally in front of GardaWorld, the Montreal office of the international security firm, located at 1390 rue Barre. Once at GardaWorld, there will be a rally.
Garda has locked out Unifor Local 4266 members in Ottawa since May 15. Unifor represents 140 GardaWorld workers in Ottawa who deliver to banks including TD, RBC, BNS, BMO and National Bank as well as other institutions. Garda is demanding huge cuts in benefits and major changes to the pension plan.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
