Media Advisory - Unifor's National President to join Unifor's Metro Vancouver transit workers at ratification vote

VANCOUVER, Oct. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Unifor National President Jerry Dias will be available in person to comment on the ratification vote to be held by Metro Vancouver's 4,700 public transit operators, maintenance workers, and SeaBus workers.

"This is a fair deal for our members and it lets us focus our efforts on winning next year's transit referendum," said Dias. "The future of this region hinges on world-class transit infrastructure, and Unifor will be helping lead the campaign for long-term investment."

WHO:     Unifor National President Jerry Dias; hundreds of Unifor members from Locals 111 (transit operators) and 2200 (transit maintenance workers)

The union locals and Coast Mountain Bus Company reached a Memorandum of Agreement to extend the Collective agreement by one year to March 31, 2016, with a general wage increase of 1.75% effective April 1, 2015.

Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 305,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
