National Update #2

Share

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We hope all members had an opportunity for family time over the Easter weekend even if it was virtually, as most communities in Canada had travel restrictions in place for Covid-19 protocols.

Your provincial bargaining committees over the last two months have proceeded with virtual negotiations with Loomis Express. We have struggled to get many things accomplished due primarily to the difficulty of having any meaningful dialogue with the company on our proposals.

Each of the local committees have proceeded in the best manner available and where possible under the various provisions in each province. We know the complete membership can appreciate the unique difficulties bargaining in these conditions presents; i.e. the need for fast and secure internet as the most challenging for many members, along with the hardware and technological comfort for committees to do so remotely. In some provinces to overcome many of these hurdles, we had brought the committees together to share technology, secure internet and facilitate internal discussions required for bargaining in a socially distance setting.

As Canada has officially entered a 3rd wave of Covid with the more severe variants causing greater pressures in some communities, we have put a pause on opening National Bargaining that had been originally scheduled to begin later this month. As the current travel and movement restrictions have increased, even implementing restrictions differently, from community to community within the same province, we have been altering our plans to keep everyone safe.

We have proposed to Loomis to maintain our schedule of using the week of May 10 to 14, 2021 to open National Bargaining and have requested further dates as well. As a full national bargaining committee, we are hoping in May some local restrictions will be behind us and we will be able to meet with a goal of coming together, as has been the practice in the past to bargain a new collective agreement for the entire membership.

We again ask that all members sign up to receive direct bargaining updates here.

In solidarity,

Your Loomis National Master Bargaining Committee
