TORONTO, Dec. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Unifor leaders and activists from across Ontario will meet in Toronto this weekend to discuss what lies ahead for workers in the province, with a new federal government and major auto talks planned for 2016.
"This will be a very important meeting as we plan for the year ahead," said Unifor Ontario Regional Director Katha Fortier.
"We have some great speakers lined up to get the discussion going."
Speakers at Unifor's Ontario Regional Council include author and social justice activist Angela Robertson, Toronto Star Ottawa columnist Susan Delacourt and Katrina Miller from the Keep Hydro Public Coalition.
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, who leads a coalition of auto city mayors, will also speak to the 700 delegates.
Unifor National President Jerry Dias, Secretary-Treasurer Peter Kennedy and Fortier will also speak.
Unifor Economist Jim Stanford will discuss Unifor's sweeping recommendations to the provincial government to address the increasing prevalence of precarious and part-time work.

There will also be several resolutions debated, including the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal, labour law review in an era of precarious and part-time work, good jobs, ending violence against women and keeping Ontario Hydro public.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers, including 156,000 in Ontario. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
