REGINA, May 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Members of Unifor Locals 1-S, 2-S and 3 have voted to support a new three-year collective agreement with SaskTel, as recommended by the union's bargaining committee. The new contract was ratified May 19.
"This deal provides the framework for our members to continue to provide the level of service the people of Saskatchewan expect and deserve," said Unifor National Representative Susan Saunders. "This agreement also underlines the importance of keeping SaskTel as a public asset. As a Crown Corporation it can serve by keeping utility bills down while generating much needed government revenue."
Unifor represents more than 3,000 SaskTel workers including Technicians, Account and Service Representatives, Clerical and Administrative Staff, Sales Associates and Systems Staff.
The deal secures wage increases and pension improvements. Language covering job security and the conflict/grievance resolution process has also been strengthened.
The bargaining committee was also able to achieve recognition of the Unifor Women's Advocate program letter to assist domestic violence.
"This collective agreement shows that our members are willing to stand up, not just for themselves but for each other and for a better society," said Unifor Western Director Joie Warnock.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers.
