For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer and Trans Unifor members
We are pleased to announce that our third Unifor Pride Conference will take place at our Unifor Family Education Centre in Port Elgin from May 10-12, 2019. This conference is open to Unifor members who are LGBTQ.
Conference delegates will have the opportunity to hear about some of the tremendous work being done within our union and our communities. Through participation in skills-building workshops and conversations hosted by LGBTQ activists and leaders, delegates will gain knowledge and build relationships they can bring back to their local union and to advocate for equity.
At a time of political fear and uncertainty, our conference focuses on Building Community. For LGBTQ members, our family and our community are often those we shape throughout our lives, in social circles, through Pride activism, and through our union.
Right-wing hate, through white supremacist politics, anti-immigrant and anti-refugee sentiments, and attacks on the most vulnerable among us aim to fracture our labour movement. This conference will address those dangerous movements and give space for LGBTQ Unifor members to build a supportive, inclusive union movement and more equitable local unions.
Every local union is encouraged to send their full complement of delegates. Our union’s commitment to equality can only be met with the total participation and involvement of our leadership and activists. Please make every effort to involve LGBTQ members representing all equity-seeking groups, including young people and Aboriginal/Workers of Colour in your delegation.
The Education Department and Human Rights Departments are also hosting a 5-Day Pride Activist Course in the lead-up to this important conference. For more information on that course visit www.unifor.org/education.
The conference and workshops will be bilingual and, as always, this conference fills up quickly. Please submit your registrations early to avoid disappointment. The registration deadline is April 26.
Please contact Sarah McCue @ 1-800-268-5763 ext. 8421 or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you require additional information. As always we are looking forward to a great conference.
The conference begins at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 10 and ends at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019. Registration takes place on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., new delegate orientation will be held from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
