Unifor locals from across Canada will send delegates to Halifax next week for Canadian Council. Even if you are not attending, there are many ways to plug in.
Presentations and keynote speakers, including National President Jerry Dias, will be broadcast on a Livestream feed from Unifor’s website. The feed can be accessed beginning on August 17 at unifor.org/canadiancouncil. Be sure to tune in!
As always, social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will help connect the events at Council to Unifor members and allies across the country. The Twitter hashtag for Council is #UniforCC18.
For delegates on-site, Unifor will be publishing a mobile app to help delegates connect with each other, follow the agenda, navigate the convention centre, learn more about speakers, and access social media channels. Details about downloading the app will be available soon. Check back next week!
Unifor members travelling to Halifax were also invited to register for two exciting pre-Council events. The first, titled Automation, New Technology and the Future of Work, will explore how the nature of work is changing in workplaces across the country and learn how some workers are taking a stand and fighting back to ensure their needs are a top priority. More information on this August 15 conference is available at here.
The second pre-Council event takes place on August 16. The Roundtable on Taking Action Against Racism and Islamophobia aims to engage delegates in an open discussion about the role of the labour movement in combatting racism, and how it can forge better alliances with activists and organizations that are leading the fight against racial and religious intolerance. If you’re interested in the democratic decisions made at council, be sure to review the resolutions and the National President’s recommendations beforehand. These documents are available online at unifor.org/canadiancouncil.
This Canadian Council will mark the union’s 5-year anniversary. It is an exciting time to be a Unifor member so be sure to tune in and participate however you are able.
