Unifor members and locals from coast-to-coast are set to celebrate this year’s Canadian Council from Sept. 27 to 29 at the Montreal Convention Centre.

“We are so excited to showcase worker power, solidarity, and all of the wins over the last year in our union,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

“While the work never stops, it’s important to pause and acknowledge all the solidarity we’ve built and continue to build. There’s an energy that all of us being together brings.”

Unifor has been a vocal force for working people across sectors and across the country. From high-profile strikes to significant collective bargaining gains, to historic organizing wins, the union’s activists continue to go above and beyond.

“It is with great pride that we welcome our delegates here in Montreal,” said Unifor Quebec Director Daniel Cloutier.

“It is always a pleasure to host our members from across the country, and I am confident that this Canadian Council will be a unique opportunity to strengthen our solidarity and advance our common struggles. Welcome to Montreal!”

This year’s council will recognize striking workers, the continued fight for anti-scab legislation at the provincial level, the need for stronger industrial policy, and wider social activism from the union.

The Council will end on the eve of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which will give delegates and leadership the opportunity to highlight the work Unifor has done surrounding Indigenous relations.

“We know we are stronger together, whether it’s at a picket line or fighting for change in government,” said Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer Len Poirier.

“Canadian Council creates a solidarity that cannot be replicated when we share our experiences, wins and challenges. This is a place where we can cry, laugh and feel proud and united.”
