CEP and CAW to Release Blueprint of Possible New Canadian Union

TORONTO — The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) and the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) will release the final proposal which could set the foundation for the largest industrial union in the nation’s history, at a press conference in downtown Toronto on August 1, 2012.

The press conference will focus on the main proposals, including allocating new resources to major country-wide organizing, determining the name of the possible new union as well as new forms of union membership.

The final report to form a new union will be presented to members of both unions at their respective conventions, who will vote on the proposal. The CAW convention will be held in Toronto August 20-24 and the CEP convention will be held in Quebec City October 14-17.
