Unifor Local 2002 members working for Jazz Aviation LP in Crew Scheduling have ratified a new five-year collective agreement, retroactive to July 1, 2016.
“Unifor is a strong union for workers in the aviation industry,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “Members at Jazz Aviation make an important contribution to the success of the company and have earned a fair contract with improvements.”
After an early impasse, the bargaining committee suspended talks to focus on negotiations for other Jazz units. Once the other Jazz units ratified new agreements, bargaining for the 43 workers in Crew Scheduling department, based in Halifax, resumed. A tentative agreement was reached with the employer on May 30.
“The resolve of our membership and the dedication of our bargaining committee has produced an agreement that affords Jazz members gains in important areas, including an increase in wages, benefit improvements, and improved vacation bidding,” said Euila Leonard, President of Local 2002.
Highlights of the contract, ratified on June 6 by members, include wage gains in each year of the agreement, benefits enhancements, better bereavement leave, and vacation bidding improvements.
In other news for Local 2002, earlier this month the bargaining committe also achieved a tentative agreement for 55 pilots at Flair Air. Voting on that contract is set to begin on June 17.
