The Honourable Doug Ford
Premier of Ontario

The Honourable David Piccini
Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development

Dear Premier Ford and Minister Piccini,

RE: Wescast Industries

I am writing to request a meeting to discuss Wescast Industries and its owner, Bohong Industries Group based in China, as the company continues to withhold approximately $10 million in termination and severance pay from 200 workers who lost their jobs at the Wingham, Ontario facility in July 2023.

Wescast continues to evade its responsibilities and to openly defy Ontario labour laws.

The company has a clear obligation to pay a significant number of Unifor Local 4207 members who became eligible for termination and severance pay in April of this year. Unifor estimates the amount owed to workers is approximately $10 million. The failure to pay monies owed has caused members a significant amount of prolonged financial distress.

As Wescast continues to demonstrate a lack of integrity and a lack of respect for the arbitration process, we are requesting a meeting with you as soon as possible to discuss this situation.

Thank you for your consideration on this important matter.

Sincerely,

Lana Payne
National President
