ABBOTSFORD, BC, Aug. 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Striking Cascade Aerospace technicians (Unifor Local 114) and their allies from across the Lower Mainland will be picketing the Aerospace, Defense, and Security Expo (ADSE) to protest the ongoing attempts by Cascade's owners to cut benefits for new employees.
"While Mike DeJong and Ed Fast make empty speeches and glad-handle aerospace CEOs, good jobs are being drained from this community," said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor's BC Area Director. "Instead of networking with donors inside the Expo, DeJong and Fast should be protecting good jobs in Abbotsford by pressuring Cascade to get back to negotiate a fair agreement after a nine-week strike."

Following the ADSE, Cascade employees will be bringing their fight to protect young workers to the Abbotsford International Air Show.
Once considered the jewel of BC's aerospace sector, the Cascade facility has been idle for months since its new owners, Halifax-based IMP Group, have undertaken an aggressive campaign to cut the benefits of young workers. Four hundred skilled technicians at Unifor Local 114 have walked off the job for nine weeks rather than see good jobs disappear.
Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 305,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
