REGINA, June 20, 2016 /CNW/ - An independent analysis prepared for SaskTel shows that the company is still as competitive as ever and shouldn't suffer as a result of the new environment resulting from the pending sale of MTS to Bell Canada. There is no reason to believe that SaskTel won't continue to have the best prices and best coverage in Saskatchewan.

"SaskTel is healthy and should continue to give Saskatchewan residents incredible value into the future if the government gets out of its way," said Dave Kuntz, President of Unifor Local 1S, representing Regina-area SaskTel workers. "SaskTel is clearly the jewel of our Crown corporations."

The risk analysis shows that there is minimal exposure to SaskTel resulting from the sale of MTS to Bell Canada (should the sale be approved by the CRTC and the federal government).

"Yet again the data shows that Crown corporations are the right model for Saskatchewan," said Susan Saunders, Unifor National Representative. "The Sask Party must protect this great public service and keep it in public hands for future generations."

Despite being held back by the Sask Party government's prohibition on expansion to other provinces, SaskTel provides among the lowest mobile rates in the country and regularly wins customer satisfaction awards.

The report was prepared by consultant Mark Goldberg and can be accessed at http://www.sasktel.com/about-us/company-info.

Unifor is Canada's telecommunications union, representing SaskTel workers across the province in Locals 1S, 2S, and 3. Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
