Wage increases, benefits enhancements, and gratuity improvements are key highlights of a new three-year collective agreement with the W Hotel ratified on June 1, 2024 by members of Unifor Local 112.

“Unifor members are standing up to employers and negotiating excellent contracts in the hospitality sector,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “The standard set at the W Hotel today will help form the basis for upcoming hotel negotiations in Toronto.”

In the collective agreement covering 150 workers, venue planners were successful at becoming part of the bargaining unit, gaining access to the health and pension benefits. Wages will increase for non-gratuity workers by $4.50 per hour during the term of the contract, including an immediate $1.75 increase in the first year. Gratuity-earning workers will see a $2.85 per hour increase plus significant enhancements to tips.

“Congratulations to the bargaining committee and all Unifor members at the W hotel. This is a collective agreement that reflects months of hard work and workplace solidarity,” said Unifor Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi.

Local 112 has also negotiated a process to review transitioning the defined contribution retirement plan to a defined benefit pension plan under the CAAT pension plan

Unifor represents more than 150 workers at the W Hotel in housekeeping, engineering, cooks, dishwashers, servers and bartenders in several food and beverage outlets, banquets, front desk.
