Hateful harassment and violence targeting LGBTQ people must be stopped at the source.
Aproximately 100 parents and children attending a storytelling event hosted by Ottawa drag queen Adrianna Exposée were berated and recorded on video by homophobic and transphobic religious protestors in Ottawa on Saturday, August 18, 2019.
This recent incident marks a dangerous increase in harassment and violence targeting Pride events across Ontario and the country.
LGBTQ parents and children have a right to live free from harassment and discrimination. No person should be threatened, or made to feel unsafe because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or their support for the queer and trans community.
As the annual Pride season nears its close in Canada, the work to build a more caring and equitable world must continue. Canada’s workers must not be divided by right-wing ideologies that target the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ people.
