Unifor hosted a successful members appreciation BBQ during the Calgary Stampede on July 10, 2024. The event, held to thank union members for their hard work and dedication, saw a fantastic turnout despite the heat, with members and their families enjoying food, music, and solidarity under the summer sun.

“Today is all about showing our appreciation for the incredible effort our members put in every day,” said Len Poirier, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer. “Their commitment and solidarity are the backbone of our union, and events like this BBQ are just a small way for us to say thank you.”

The BBQ featured Local 4050’s event vehicle and grill to help feed the 150 members and their families who attended at Club YC near the Calgary airport. Attendees included members from around the Calgary area, including many members for whom this was their first Unifor event.

Adding to the excitement of the day, Alberta NDP's new leader, Naheed Nenshi, stopped by to meet with members and show his support for the union. Unifor was instrumental in the party’s strong showing in the 2023 provincial election.

“Our members work hard and it is important to hold events that are fun and create the space to bring their families and meet fellow Unifor members from other job sites,” said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. “It's heartening to see such a strong turnout and to have leaders like Naheed Nenshi join us in celebrating our union family.”
