Unifor representatives Dan Bailey and Claudine Stom attended the August 16 opening of the ASAHTOWIKAMIK Food Hub in Regina, a groundbreaking facility dedicated to addressing food insecurity. Unifor’s $25,000 donation is part of the union’s ongoing commitment to social justice and community support, helping to ensure that vulnerable populations have access to nutritious food in a dignified manner.

The ASAHTOWIKAMIK Food Hub is an innovative approach to food assistance that allows clients to choose the food they need, similar to a grocery store experience. This model reduces stigma but also empowers individuals and families to make choices that best suit their needs.

“The ASAHTOWIKAMIK Food Hub is a vital resource for the community, and Unifor is proud to support its mission of providing food security and dignity for all,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “This donation reflects our union’s core values of solidarity and our commitment to standing with those in need.”

Unifor’s contribution will help sustain the Hub’s operations, which include offering locally sourced food, nutritional education, and Indigenous-led programming. The ASAHTOWIKAMIK Food Hub is expected to feed over 17,000 people each month.
