TORONTO – Unifor reached a tentative deal with Bell Craft after an eight-month bargaining process involving local unions spread across Quebec and Ontario.
KITIMAT–After achieving a historic 100% strike vote result and nearly seven weeks of unproductive negotiations with Rio Tinto, Unifor Local 2301 has served the company with a 72-hour strike notice.
“Unifor members’ historic, unanimous, strike vote speaks volumes to the culture of disrespect and unfair treatment Rio Tinto has created over many years,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “What is surprising is how, despite record-setting profits, Rio Tinto appears so unwilling to work with us and treat our members fairly.”

Re: Permanent Pandemic Pay
Earlier this month, you informally announced that the pandemic pay scheduled to end in August would become permanent for Personal Support Workers. While Unifor applauds this decision, it only addresses part of a much larger problem wherein many frontline health care workers, whose work and sacrifice carried us through the pandemic, continue to be excluded.
As you know, bargaining broke off in early June. Earlier this week, the Company submitted a new counter proposal, which your committee has since responded to. We will now resume holding talks with the company via Zoom from Peterborough beginning Tuesday, July 20th, to address the differences in our positions.
